Far East Asian Chinese Ribbon And Fan Dance Workshops

Chinese Ribbon and Fan Dance Workshops are traditional dance experience not to be missed! This is a fun and lively dance workshop, which is not only enjoyable but also serves to educate participants about the meanings of the dances in the societies from which they originate. Chinese Folk Dance has a long history and some of the pieces are based on events from history.

The workshop includes learning Chinese hand gestures and their symbolic meanings, stories about how they relate to everyday life, simple Chinese vocabulary, and dance routines for groups and individuals.  Participants can also learn a complete Chinese dance leading to a live  performance! The Fan Dance is known for its beautiful and delicate poses and is an excellent represents of Chinese traditional culture

Beijing Opera Mask Making & Performance Workshops

The Chinese Opera as a performance art has a long tradition in China dating some back 2,000 years! The main features of Chinese Opera are a spectacle of song and dance which, together with the colourful costumes, make-up, acrobats, jesters, storytellers, acting, poetry and martial arts combine to present the Opera in a very attractive way.

Opera Drama & Performance Workshops

Our highly interactive workshop aims to involve the participants as much as possible leading to a live performance. Participants work with Trap Media’s highly professional and skilled facilitators to gain first an understanding  of the various types of Chinese Operas and their significance in China’s history. Workshops move on to participants discovering how movement evokes powerful feelings and images; how different movements are integrated and combined to create new ones; and how to begin composing a basic Operatic routine.

The conclusion of the workshops offers participants, working in groups the opportunity to take part in a live Operatic performance. Our Chinese Opera Workshops are bespoke dependant of age, ability and your time requirements to provide either a general introduction to Chinese Opera consisting of an exploration of movements, role types, costumes, make-up and make up. Or it can cover any of the above subjects in greater depth dependant on your organisations needs.

Opera Mask Making and Makeup Workshops

In Chinese Opera no story can ever be truly told without the beautiful and colourful masks and makeup worn by its performers.

Trap Media’s highly informed and professional make up artist will provided an overview of Chinese Opera Mask Making and Makeup and its historical context in Chinese Opera and Chinese culture, using media such as photographs, video and a live demonstration of the art form. Participants will learn an understanding of the symbolism of the colours and patterns and how they are used on the face will be explained.

Each participants will then be provided with face-painting templates and encouraged by our Make Up expert  to use their imagination to create a character, based on the knowledge they will have just gained on the use of colour, symbols and patterns. Participants will then have the option of completing their designs as a face mask or as a face painting. Our Make up artist will use professional stage make-up to assist individuals (Please note all makeup used is hypo-allergenic cream base). The conclusion of the workshop offers participants, working in groups the opportunity to take part in live mini operatic performance to show of their handiwork!

Origami Workshops

This workshop is based on the traditional art form of  paper folding which is highly informative and great fun for all ages. Our experts will show you step by step how to make many kinds of elegant and decorative pieces using nothing but paper; from animals such as crane through to impressive mythical creatures such as dragons. You will also learn how to functional kids' toys and gifts.

Each Origami workshops will be adjusted to meet the level of participants. Our workshops are designed to be a positive learning experience which is practical for maths and ideal for stimulation for all participants. Tai Chi Workshops

Originally developed in China as a form of self-defence, tai chi is a graceful form of exercise that has existed for some 2,000 years. Practiced regularly, tai chi can help you reduce stress and enjoy other health benefits. A fun way to exercise!  Tai chi is a sequence of slow dance like movements. With the expert guidance of a Trap Media specialist, participants will learn the basic elements of this graceful ancient martial art.


Chinese Calligraphy And Characters Writing Workshops

Calligraphy is the ancient art of tradition Chinese writing and is a real art form. This fun workshop can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Each calligraphy workshop includes an introduction to Chinese characters. 

For example, how the character "wood or forest" evolved from the word tree. With the help of a Trap Media writing expert participants will be able to try out some Chinese calligraphy using a brush and paint and learn the techniques of the art.


Chinese Story Telling (Recommended For Younger Children)

Enter into a world of dragons and ancient warriors and where beautiful maidens fly to the moon. These imaginative and exciting stories are based on Chinese traditional folk tales who makes a refreshing change from western fairy stories. Our Chinese Story Telling Workshops are designed to be fully interactive so children are involved right from the very start with full participation. The artists may embellish the stories with Chinese opera movements and a simple costume if appropriate to the contents. The vocabulary used will be adjusted to the level of the participants After story telling, participants will be encourage to act out the story in a fun group role-play.

Chinese Music Workshops

One of Trap Media’s highly professional and experience musical facilitator will attend your premises bringing along a wide range of traditional Chinese musical instruments to show the group. Musical instruments will comprise of a wide range of string, wind, and percussion instruments.Each instrument will be demonstrated live with an opportunity for all participants have a go playing each instruments leading to a limited fun live group performance, dependant on time and ability.
